Fan Coil
In most applications heat is provided all year round for fan coil units. Cooling is normally only provided during May to September.
Fan coil maintenance is recommended twice per year, once in the spring and once in the fall.
The air filter should be replaced whenever dirty. Typically, every three months.
Ensure there is still power going to the fan coil unit. Check that the breaker for the fan coil is set in the “on” position. If the breaker is in the “on” position or if the breaker is tripping please contact our office for further assistance.
Thermostat
- Make sure you have power to your heating / cooling unit by checking the break is in the “on” position.
- Your thermostat batteries may need to be replaced
If your thermostat is located near a window it may result in inaccurate temperature displays. To ensure the most accurate reading use window coverings. If the problem continues the thermostat may need to be relocated.
Heat Pumps
Heat pump maintenance is recommended twice per year, once in the spring and once in the fall.
The air filter should be replaced whenever dirty. Typically, every three months.
- Turn off the thermostat switch (located on your thermostat)Locate your heat pump breaker switch (located in the electrical panel and should be clearly marked)
- Turn the breaker off for 15 minutes.
- Turn the breaker back on, if the breaker trips, then you will need further assistance.
- If the breaker resets, switch the thermostat to “ON” or “HEAT” or “COOL” position depending on your need of heating or cooling.
- Raise or lower temperature on thermostat.
- Check to see if you are getting hot or cold air coming from the vents
- Turn the thermostat switch to the “OFF” position. (Located on your thermostat). Turn thermostat back on when electrical outage is over.
- If you are not home at the time, check to see if your unit is running. If you find it operating properly (i.e.: you feel heat or cooling coming from the vents), your unit should be ok.
- If you find your heat pump unit not operating:
- Make sure your filters are clean.
- The front of your heat pump unit is free of obstructions.
If the power does not return please contact our office for further assistance.
To determine if the noise is coming from your heat pump unit shutoff all power to the unit, by putting the breaker in the “off” position. If the noise has stopped then contact our office for further assistance.
If the noise continues after the power has been turned off there could be possible drainage issues or the noise could be coming from another source.
In the event that there is any visible ice on your heat pump unit set the breaker in the “off” position and contact our office for further assistance. Note: If there is a large build up of ice it maybe necessary to soak up the water with towels.
If you notice any bad smells coming from your heat pump unit you may require maintenance. Please contact our office for further assistance.
Analog thermostats are not recommended for heat pump units. They may cause the compressor to short cycle resulting in premature failure. It is recommended to have a digital thermostat with a compressor delay.
